Single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction are core analytical techniques within the chemical sciences, which support and augment a broad range of research within the Department. Modern diffraction instruments, applied at both laboratory and synchrotron sources, enable complex chemical problems to be tackled using crystallographic methods.

The Department houses a well-equipped X-ray facility, including numerous area-detector single-crystal X-ray diffractometers and powder X-ray diffractomers with a variety of non-ambient sample environments.

Our X-ray facilities and services are available for use by researchers in the Department and University. We also provide data collection and analysis services to researchers and external (industry) customers.
